The Most Popular Traditional Foods in Indonesia. In Indonesia there are so many traditional food that really well-known in the society. Most of these foods are popular in some places only but there are also some foods which become a favorite for most of people in Indonesia. I will not share about those traditional foods which are only popular in certain place but here I will share about some foods which are popular in almost all places in Indonesia. I do not know what people say about this food but I things that it is interesting to talk about foods.
Most of Indonesia societies have their own traditional foods, most of them can only be found in their society; some foods are popular in certain place and others are well-known many places. The most popular foods are meatballs (Bakso) and also kebabs.
Meatballs
A meatball is the most popular foods in Indonesia. Most of people enjoy eating this traditional food, young and old they are really enjoy eating Meatballs. This meatball is generally made from a mixture of ground beef and tapioca flour. Beside ground beef some of them are also made from chicken, fish or shrimp. This meatball are mostly served with noodles, bean sprouts, tofu, eggs, and sprinkled with fried onion and celery.
Soto
Soto is a special Indonesian traditional food, since it diverse in the form and the variations. Their differences are corresponding with its region. What I mean here is that soto which comes from Padang will be different with soto which comes from Betawi.
Soto is usually made from chicken and beef or beef offal, it sprinkled with fried unions and lime juice in order to taste more delicious.
Nasi Padang
Nasi Padang, as the name is comes from Padang in West Sumatra Province. Because of its delicacy and popularity, we can find Nasi Padang in almost all of Indonesian provinces, and can even be found in foreign countries. It is easy to find Nasi Padang in Singapore, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.
Nasi Padang is white rice which served with many kinds of side dishes in different plate. Variations in the form of fish head curry, beef curry feet, until curry intestine containing eggs in it. The food is full of coconut milk and spices.
Empal Gentong
Empal Gentong is a traditional food from Cirebon, West Java. The food is similar to the goulash (gule) and cooked using firewood (mango tree) in the barrel (clay pot). The meat used is the intestines, tripe and beef. Empal Gentong comes from the village Battembat, Middle Tani district, Cirebon regency.
In addition to using firewood and barrel, food is served using chives (Chlorella sorokiniana) and sambal chilli dry milled form. Empal Gentong can be served with rice or rice cake too. Lontong based on Cirebon people is rice which is inserted into a banana leaf that has been formed into a cylinder, no other mixture, and then boiled for 4 hours.
